Going to miss my Vita-Mix while I’m out of town…

I’ve been having so much fun with my new Vita-Mix! I’m going to miss it while I’m at the Hazon Food Conference this week. The good news is, if past years are any indication, they’ll have yummy stuff like dehydrated beet and sweet potato chips. Can’t wait to see what new healthy food I can get the kids to eat!

In the meantime, here’s some healthy food I’ve been getting them to eat at home! And some of it has been for the grown-ups!

Grapefruit juice:

My 1st Vita-Mix Juice!

My 1st sorbet in the Vita-Mix. See how thick it is! That spoon is sideways and nothing is moving! I simply dumped in a bag of frozen mixed fruit: peaches, pineapple, strawberries and mango.

I am never paying $5 for a container of sorbet again! Not the money, it’s the corn syrup, sugar, thickeners, preservatives, etc…

My husband said it makes him look kinda bad when someone asks him what he got me for my birthday and he says a blender. I said, “It’s not a blender, it’s a Vita-Mix.” That’s in their sales material, right? Must be. Anyway, I begged for it, for the record.

Finally, he said, “You realize this is an elitist appliance don’t you?” I do. But it’s a healthy one and I’m happy to have it!

Because I’m at the beginning of my use, send any and all vegan ideas this way. Looking forward to hearing about others fun, healthy recipes and experiences. I feel like I should make a commercial and end it with, “It’s a lifestyle…” or something dorky. lol…

Hazon and Isabella Freedman to Merge!

In the category of COMPLETELY MAKES SENSE Hazon and Isabella Freedman have announced they are merging!

I’m looking forward to learning more about this at the Hazon Food Conference this week. At Isabella Freedman of course!

I leave Thursday and it will be the third time I’ve covered the conference, but this time I’m bringing my family!

In the meantime, I’m going to re-post some of the articles I’ve written about the conference in the past. Stay tuned…

Old McYankel Had a Farm

Everything I love…smart Vox Tablet podcast, a little something Jewish and a little something food!

Read about a place where you can pay someone else so that you can do hard labor and speak Yiddish.  No, seriously.

A number of years ago I got on a kick that I wanted to learn Yiddish. Unfortunately I am terrible at languages. This lack of talent, combined with a mediocre (i.e. bad) teacher, and I didn’t learn much. For a brief period I knew how to read it and I finally had a deep understanding for the reason Jews speak in the opposite pattern of waspy folks.  Subject first, information second. I did learn a few words, but I probably learned the most useful words from The Joys of Yiddish. In modern America and Jewish society, one only needs to know about 50 terms and phrases to be considered moderately fluent. Actually speaking in sentences? That’s what my grandparents did when they didn’t want us to understand what they were saying.

These days I can’t imagine why I thought it would be so useful to learn to speak Yiddish – over Modern Hebrew. Apparently there are others currently with enough reason to plonk down a couple grand for the experience. No, seriously.
